Proofreaders and bibliographies

My friend Liz over at Libro Editing has written a post on why proofreaders do not edit bibliographies. I have the same policy: your examiners will be assessing your ability to work with references as part of their assessment of your dissertation. Therefore it is inappropriate for me to do a lot of work with your bibliography. As Liz says, if changes need to be made to more than 1 in 5 of the entries in your bibliography, this indicates that you have not come to grips with the demands of academic referencing and it is your responsibility to ensure that you do, so that your examiners can see that you are fully equipped to tackle your level of academic study.
